dolphin watching dominical

If you are looking for an exotic and exciting Honeymoon in Costa Rica, staying in jungle lodges with spectacular ocean views, but cannot afford to visit Osa / Corcovado, the Uvita – Dominical Region is an outstanding option. While both towns lie on the beaches, driving just a few miles inland will place you inside dense rainforest, bustling with wildlife and boasting spectacular views, ideal for an exotic and romantic Costa Rica honeymoon.

Couples looking for a mix of rainforest and beach should consider 3 nights in Uvita complemented by 4 nights in the Guanacaste shores. For those honeymooners that can plan a 9 or 10 night stay, Uvita is the ideal stop to add to an Arenal or Monteverde visit, ending in a relaxing beachfront hotel.

The region is a paradise waiting to be found. Ecolodges are on the small side, with 20 rooms or less, and are quite remote with difficult access. In most cases, visitors should either have a private driver take them to the hotel, fly to Quepos and use a private transfer, or for those that prefer to have a car rental, expect difficult access roads, especially during rainy season.

A Costa Rica honeymoon in the Uvita and Dominical beaches is not for every couple. You need a strong sense of adventure and expect limited services at the hotels. While the recommended accommodations do offer in-house restaurants, spa services, tour desks and other amenities, the experience is a true jungle lodge, with the implied limitations of small hotels in the “middle of nowhere”.

Tours and day activities outside these hotels include whale and dolphin watching tours (in season), boat tours to Cano Island – with possible snorkeling and diving packages – guided boat tours to Corcovado National Park, sports fishing and a local canopy tour. A two or three night stay in the region is recommended.

While in Uvita - Dominical in Central Pacific Shores

Visit Corcovado National Park. Two biological stations - San Pedro and La Sirena - provide starting points for exhilarating nature hikes. To take full advantage of the area, use the services of an expert guide.

Tour Cano Island. Many experts consider this one of Costa Rica's top diving spots. You can also snorkel, explore nature or relax in the sun. The boat ride itself makes this tour a worthwhile excursion.

Go dolphin and whale watching. During the migratory season, the waters off the coast of Corcovado are full of dolphins and whales traveling to and from North and South America. Experts guide the boat in search of these magnificent ocean mammals, offering visitors a responsible, close encounter with over twenty-five species of dolphins and whales.
